Posisi Keenam yang Penuh Arti Bagi Rossi

Brno - Jika dilihat secara hasil, Valentino Rossi memang hanya finis di posisi keenam di MotoGP Republik Ceko. Namun VR46 mengatakan bahwa hasil yang dia raih di Brno tersebut penuh arti.

Rossi menjadi pembalap keenam yang melintasi garis finis dalam balapan yang berlangsung Minggu (14/8/2011) malam WIB. Ini adalah kali keempat pembalap Ducati itu finis keenam di balapan musim ini, setelah sebelumnya di Inggris, Italia, dan Amerika Serikat.

Rossi mengakui bahwa dia melakukan kesalahan sehingga hanya mampu bisa finis di tempat keenam. "Kami memulai balapan dengan tujuan bertarung dengan kelompok pembalap di depan kami, namun sayang kami melakukan kesalahan kecil di prosedur start untuk memanaskan ban dan di dua putaran pertama, tanpa grip yang cukup, sulit bagi saya," kata dia.

Namun pembalap Italia itu menilai hasil di Brno kali ini memiliki arti lebih. "Memang ini tempat keenam, tapi ini posisi keenam yang jauh lebih penting dibanding hasil-hasil lain yang kami raih," ujarnya di situs resmi MotoGP.

"Start yang saya lakukan memang tak sebagus ketika balapan di Laguna contohnya. Jika saya bisa melakukan seperti di Laguna, maka itu bakal sangat membantu. Sebab sejak putaran ketiga hingga finis saya memiliki kecepatan yang sama dengan dua Yamaha dan bahkan tidak terlalu jauh dengan Simoncelli."

"Selisih waktu yang saya miliki dengan pembalap-pembalap di depan semakin sempit, meski saya sedikit menurun menjelang akhir balapan dan sejak itu saya tidak bisa berbuat apa-apa lagi. Namun, saya sebenarnya bisa sepuluh detik di belakang Stoner (yang jadi juara-red) dan bisa lebih sedikit lagi di belakang mereka yang finis di podium. Kini kami harus fokus untuk langkah-langkah selanjutnya," tutupnya.

Brno - Meski MotoGP Jepang dipastikan tetap bergulir, sejumlah pembalap masih pikir-pikir untuk tampil di sana. Setelah sebelumnya Casey Stoner, kali ini giliran Valentino Rossi yang menyatakan keraguannya.

Penyelenggara MotoGP menyatakan bahwa MotoGP Jepang musim ini tetap digelar, terlepas Maret silam terjadi bencana gempa bumi dan tsunami yang dahsyat, yang menyebabkan kebocoran reaktor nuklir.

Pihak penyelenggara mengatakan bahwa dari hasil penelitian yang sudah dilakukan, kondisi di sekitar Motegi dinyatakan aman dari radiasi nuklir.

Namun begitu Valentino Rossi mengindikasikan tak akan tampil di Motegi. "Saya tidak berpikir bahwa saya akan ke Jepang," lugas The Doctor dikutip dari BBC.

"Saya semula berharap penyelenggara kejuaraan akan membuat keputusan yang tepat. Namun itu tidak terjadi dan sekarang kita menghadapi problem serius," kata dia.

Sebelumnya Casey Stoner menolak digelarnya MotoGP Jepang. Pembalap Honda itu ternyata punya alasan khusus karena dia khawatir terkena radiasi padahal akan segera menjadi ayah.

Sementara itu rider Inggris Cal Crutchlow dan Tech 3 Yamaha mengonfirmasi tampil di Jepang.

Ada pun MotoGP di 'Negeri Sakura' musim ini digelar pada 2 Oktober mendatang.

Jerez - Casey Stoner tampil sebagai pembalap tercepat dalam free practice I MotoGP Spanyol. Stoner sukses mengungguli Dani Pedrosa dan Valentino Rossi.

Pada sesi yang berlangsung di Sirkuit Jerez, Jumat (1/4/2011) sore WIB, Stoner unggul tipis atas Pedrosa. Keduanya sempat bertarung, berlomba-lomba mencetak catatan waktu tercepat sampai akhir sesi.

Tepat beberapa menit sebelum sesi berakhir, Stoner menorehkan catatan waktu 1:39,551 detik, membuatnya unggul 0,028 detik atas Pedrosa. Catatan waktu itulah yang membuat rider Honda itu mencatatkan diri sebagai pembalap tercepat.

Pedrosa harus puas menjadi pembalap tecepat kedua dengan catatan waktu 1:39,579 detik. Setidaknya Honda bisa tersenyum melihat catatan yang dibuat oleh kedua pembalapnya ini.

Rossi, yang performanya bersama Ducati belum bisa dibilang impresif, tampil cepat dalam sesi latihan bebas ini. The Doctor selalu menempatkan diri dalam jajaran pembalap tercepat dan akhirnya menjadi pembalap tercepat ketiga dengan catatan waktu 1:40,077 detik.

Jorge Lorenzo menorehkan catatan waktu 1:40,420 detik dan akhirnya menempat urutan lima dalam sesi latihan bebas ini. Sedangkan Andrea Dovizioso menempati urutan enam dengan catatan waktu 1:40,429 detik.

Dovizioso juga mengalami crash pada free practice ini ketika melewati tikungan 11 pada lap terakhirnya. Beruntung baginya, ia tak cedera.

Valentino Rossi dan Nicky Hayden lebih dari siap untuk memaksa masalah di akhir pekan ini Gran Premio de España bwin, sebagai duo Tim Ducati mempersiapkan diri untuk kickstart masing-masing di Jerez.

The nine-time World Champion collected the ‘Comeback of the Year’ Award at the ceremony, which took place in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Valentino Rossi’s incredible recovery from injury in 2010 was recognised by the Laureus Academy on Monday, as the Italian MotoGP rider was honoured with the 2011 Laureus World Sports Award ‘Comeback of the Year’ prize.

The Academy, which is made up of 46 of the greatest sportspeople of all time, voted Rossi’s remarkable return to action just 41 days after an exposed fracture of his right tibia as the most deserving of the award. The Italian suffered the injury in a practice session crash at Mugello on June 5th, and was back on track for the opening practice session of the German Grand Prix on July 16th.

Rossi held off competition from US golfer Paula Creamer, American sprinter Tyson Gay, Belgian tennis star Justine Henin, and athletes Carolina Kluft and Merlene Ottey to take the prize.

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal was named Sportsman of the Year and American skier Lindsey Vonn the Sportswoman of the Year at the ceremony in Abu Dhabi, which also bestowed awards in Team, Breakthrough, Sportsperson with a Disability, and Action Sportsperson of the Year categories, as well as Lifetime Achievement, Spirit of Sport and Sport for Good Awards.

It was also announced at the ceremony that five-time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan had been elected to the Laureus World Sports Academy, joining another MotoGP Legend Giacomo Agostini.

The Ducati Team riders both set top-ten laps on the third day of the Sepang Test as they rounded off their first full on-track evaluations of the GP11.

Rossi ready to push on after first Sepang Test

Valentino Rossi pronounced himself very satisfied with the progress made on the GP11’s setup, allowing him to drop his best lap time by over seven-tenths of a second compared to yesterday. Despite being limited by his still-healing shoulder, the Italian was also happy with his physical progress and with the work done by his team.

Nicky Hayden also improved each day, and he looks forward to seeing the fruits of his labour at the next Test, which will once again take place at Sepang between February 22nd-24th.

Nicky Hayden, 8th, 2’01.534 (60 laps):

“It’s great to be back here, and to be back on the bike. We had three important days with a lot of work to do. Of course I don’t like to still be so far away from the leaders, but we’ve reduced the gap every day. Today it looked like it could rain at any time, so we did a lot of laps in the morning and found some stuff we like. We chased the chatter a lot, which cost us time trying to figure out what’s going on. Last year, that was something we only had a problem with at this one track. We don’t want it anywhere, but it could be a problem that’s not related to the GP11 in general and is specific just to this circuit. We also tested some tyres for Bridgestone and gave them some information that can help down the road. We realise there’s still a lot of work to do, and that starts with the rider. When we come back, we'll keep reducing the gap to the front guys.”

Valentino Rossi, 10th, 2’01.842 (52 laps):

“I’m very happy because before coming here, I expected to do 20, 30 laps per day, and as it turns out, I did around 40 each of the first two days and over 50 today. Of course I was really finished by the end, in part because the rest of my body has to work differently; my left arm has to do extra work, so it’s very tired. But I’m really happy with my shoulder because it’s improving day-by-day, and even after the stress of having ridden a MotoGP bike at the limit, I don’t have any problems: now it’s just a question of strength. My mobility has improved a lot, and I no longer think my physical limitations cost me a second; let’s say I lose five or six tenths, especially on braking and in corner entry. Anyway, we worked well today too, and we were able to collect a lot of data and solve the chattering problem we were experiencing. Obviously, there’s still a lot to do, but compared to the start of the Test, we’ve definitely gotten closer to the base set-up we’re looking for. There’s no need to change the Desmosedici’s character; we need to take advantage of its best characteristics – its stability and its engine – and improve the other areas, especially the in-corner behaviour, to make it turn better. In any case, the overall evaluation of the Test is definitely good; today we’re a second off the top riders, and also in the afternoon, riding with race tyres, the distance stayed around seven or eight tenths. I still have to do more kilometres in order to understand other aspects of the GP11 but, although I have to change my riding style a little, I now feel much more at home with the Ducati.”

The Italian completed a productive second day at Sepang, where he was able to test different fairings on the Desmosedici to aid his recovering shoulder.

Valentino Rossi’s position on the timesheet at the Sepang Test may be uncharacteristic for the Italian, but as the last two days have passed the Ducati rider has gained increasing encouragement from what he has been able to do on the Desmosedici.

Twelfth fastest on day one with a best time of 2’03.365 Rossi improved by almost eight-tenths of a second on Wednesday to end 13th but with a lap of 2’02.597, and he explained how his shoulder was affecting his progress.

“Being able to ride again today is important because the shoulder isn’t getting worse under the continued strain. Everything is fine while riding under 2’03”, then when I try to take another second off the strength diminishes and the pain increases,” he said. “It needs more time, without doubt. The situation will improve, but it will be a wait until May. Only then will we be able to work extensively on the bike, because everything we do now could be thrown into doubt when we record more competitive times, when my physical condition is perfect.”

Discussing the areas focused on during day two in Malaysia, Rossi continued: “Today we tried a lot of things, especially with the aerodynamics. We focused on comparing fairings and riding with and without wings, and I’m more inclined towards the latter option. The fact is that I’m not in the best physical condition and with the wings I find more resistance in corner entry, which is not good for my shoulder. One of the things we need to improve is going through the turns, because I can’t turn the bike as I would like to. Tomorrow we’re going to continue working with the same enthusiasm as we had today, and at the end of the Test we’ll leave with a lot of information.”

Another important aspect worked on by Rossi and his crew was tyres, which he indicated had a big impact on the handling of the GP11.

“We also did a Test with the tyres, and that’s something that the Ducati depends a lot on as its behaviour changes a lot depending on whether the tyres are hard or soft,” he stated. “The results haven’t been bad, but we haven’t solved the problems with vibration in the front yet. When it starts to vibrate the bike is really difficult to handle.”

Having seen Wednesday’s fastest rider Dani Pedrosa post a best lap some 1.827s quicker than his own, Rossi assessed the competition with whom he has been sharing the track over the past two days.

“Everybody seems to be very much in shape, both the bikes and the riders. It’s normal to go harder in Testing than during a GP weekend. When you have three days in which to ride you can ride fast all day because it makes the bike perform better, and above all because there’s more rubber on the track,” he said, before adding a comment about his aims for the third and final day on Thursday.

“For this reason I think that tomorrow I can go even faster. Our objective is to improve our times, but mainly to improve my feeling with the bike and find how to ride with less difficulty,” he concluded.

The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider finished Thursday at the Sepang Test with the fastest time of the entire three days. Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo were second and third fastest respectively, with Valentino Rossi tenth.

The first on-track MotoGP action of the year concluded at Sepang on Thursday, and in an exciting opening chapter of the pre-season period it was Marco Simoncelli who topped the third and final day’s timesheet in Malaysia. The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider posted a 2’00.757 on his second of 42 laps, an effort that registered the best time of the entire Test and which was just 0.239s off Valentino Rossi’s 2009 circuit best lap.

The Ducati rider has also been one of the main focuses of attention throughout these three days, and he ended Thursday tenth in the timings with a lap of 2’01.842 – 1.085s off his fellow compatriot’s scorching marker.

Casey Stoner has been in fine form throughout this Test and the new Repsol Honda recruit was one of four riders to join Simoncelli under the 2’01” mark on the final day. The Australian’s effort of 2’00.811 was noted on his 38th of 42 laps, thus continuing his pattern of setting his best time late in the day and showing no lingering effects of a fall at Turn 5 earlier on.

World Champion Jorge Lorenzo was just 0.088s off Simoncelli as he placed his factory M1 as the highest Yamaha of the day. The Spaniard, who performed a tyre test in the afternoon, was precisely 0.1s faster than Andrea Dovizioso, whose Repsol Honda machine was the third RC212V inside the top four by the close of play.

Ben Spies’ integration into the Yamaha Factory Racing Team set-up maintained its smooth rate of progress. The American, using this Test to bond with his crew, finished Thursday with a time of 2’01.002 having ridden 60 laps, his best effort coming on the sixth of those. A brace of Hondas then followed, with Dani Pedrosa (+0.484s on Simoncelli) rounding off what has been an encouraging Test for the Repsol Honda rider who came into the Test hoping for no major problems with his collarbone. His best time from Wednesday also stood as the second fastest of the Test overall. Hiroshi Aoyama (+0.596s) appears to be making a slick transition to the San Carlo Honda Gresini set-up, and completed the highest number of laps of any rider with 63.

The highest placing Ducati on Thursday was that of Nicky Hayden. The factory team rider tried out different race settings on the GP11, and he and fellow American Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) were the last two to come within a second of Simoncelli’s top time.

Rossi then led a group of five Ducatis, the Italian running a new set-up on the final day and managing to deal with the chatter issue that had been affecting his GP11. Héctor Barberá (Aspar Team), Loris Capirossi and Randy de Puniet of Pramac Racing, and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) occupied positions 11 to 14.

British rookie Cal Crutchlow put in 44 laps on the last day, setting a time of 2’02.717 on his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine, with Toni Elías (LCR Honda) completing the MotoGP riders on track. Álvaro Bautista was absent from the final day due to illness, leaving Suzuki Test rider Nobu Aoki to carry out the Japanese factory’s scheduled workload.

Valentino Rossi’s inauguration as an official Ducati rider took a further step at Madonna di Campiglio on Wednesday, when along with team-mate Nicky Hayden he was on hand to unveil the Desmosedici GP11 that both with ride in the 2011 MotoGP World Championship.

i’s machine – personalised by Aldo Drudi – had hints of the Italian’s famous yellow, as the prototype was revealed for the first time.

The man behind the design of the GP11, Filippo Preziosi, was present at a press conference to describe the major characteristics of the machine as he detailed the features that include new aerodynamics, changes to engine torque, the stiffness of the chassis and revised electronics. “The aerodynamics are completely different, and the features are those we tested at Valencia (in November) upon which we will base the evolution of the bike,” said Preziosi, who also spoke to motogp.com

after the press conference to explain the main changes to the prototype.

Also in attendance was Ducati General Manager Claudio Domenicali, who said: “2011 will be a year of great change. It will be the start of the third phase of our presence in MotoGP, a historic moment. To have Valentino in the team is a new aspect. Everybody knows what Valentino is capable of in terms of giving feedback for improving the bike and furthering the capacity of our project.”

In less than one month’s time the first Official MotoGP Test of the year takes place at Sepang as the fight for the final 800cc title gets underway. Here, motogp.com previews the forthcoming season.

The 2010 campaign is still fresh in the memory but already the focus has turned to 2011. With the first Official Test in preparation for the new season coming immediately after the final round of the year in Valencia back in November, the excitement at the final 800cc season before the introduction of a 1000c engine capacity limit in 2012 is merely adding to the anticipation that the 2011 season will be one to savour.

Looking at the leading contenders for the 2011 MotoGP title the defending World Champion Jorge Lorenzo will be at the forefront, as he aims to underline his status as the new dominant force. Having been so consistent in 2010 and finishing 16 of the 18 rounds on the podium on his M1, the factory Yamaha rider displayed a level of maturity that was vastly improved in comparison to his previous premier class campaigns.

As Lorenzo opts for continuity with Yamaha two of his chief rivals ride with new teams in 2011. Casey Stoner becomes a factory HRC rider and his display in the Valencia Test hinted at what was an immediate affinity with the RC212V, whilst Valentino Rossi has filled the Australian’s seat at Ducati as an all-Italian match-up adds to the fascinating grid. Rossi may not have enjoyed as comfortable an introduction to his new machine as Stoner did to the Honda, but such is the nine-time World Champion’s proven track record he can be expected to be pushing hard on the Desmosedici come March 20th at Losail.

Along with Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa will hope to benefit from the stability of remaining with the same set-up in 2011, and for the 2010 runner-up it will be his sixth season on the factory Honda team. Having been Lorenzo’s longest challenger until injury struck towards the end of 2010, Pedrosa’s sights will be firmly set on a first premier class title.

As much as the ‘top four’ continue to be spoken of in one bracket, the gap behind them is being closed all the time and there are a number of riders who will not only be confident of breaking into that elite, but who have proven they have the ability to run at the front.

Andrea Dovizioso enjoyed his best premier class season to date in 2010 and will remain on the factory Honda team, Ben Spies was Rookie of the Year and earned a factory Yamaha ride as well as serving notice of his talent in what was his debut year, and of course Nicky Hayden is a former World Champion who displayed a much-improved feeling on the Desmosedici in his second season with Ducati. Marco Simoncelli was also highly impressive in his first campaign in the MotoGP class, and in 2011 will ride a factory supported RC212V on the San Carlo Honda Gresini team.

Colin Edwards has a wealth of MotoGP experience and will continue with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team, whilst Loris Capirossi and Randy de Puniet are both seasoned campaigners and will compete to adjust quickest to the Desmosedici of the Pramac Racing team. Returning for their second seasons respectively and eager to make progress will be Héctor Barberá (Paginas Amarillas Aspar), Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) and Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini).

Great interest will also be stoked by the introduction of three new riders to the category. Toni Elías, winner of the inaugural Moto2 World Championship, makes his return to the premier class with LCR Honda whilst rookies Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Karel Abraham (Cardion ab Motoracing) make the move from superbikes and Moto2 respectively.

The American media star will join forces with the BQR set-up with riders Sergio Gadea and Maverick Viñales on board in the World Championship, with the renowned Rossano Brazzi on the technical side of the team.

Paris Hilton will be present at Hotel ME in Madrid this Saturday (December 18th) for the official presentation of the SuperMartxé VIP by Paris Hilton team, which will compete in the 2011 125cc World Championship.

Also in attendance at the event will be the American media star’s partners Nano, Xavi Montero and Ricard Garriga, along with sporting and technical director of the team Ricard Jové and riders Sergio Gadea and Maverick Viñales. The former of the two Spanish riders is an experienced World Championship campaigner and the latter a promising young talent, who this year took the Spanish National Championship and European 125cc titles.

The SuperMartxé VIP by Paris Hilton team will also have a highly experienced technical team behind it, with the skilled combination of Christian Lundberg and Rossano Brazzi having been brought together for the challenge for the final 125cc category title.

The Italian has started a passive rehabilitation on his recovering shoulder having had his stitches removed, just over two weeks after surgery on the joint.

The next stage in Valentino Rossi’s recovery from the shoulder surgery he underwent on November 14th has begun after the 31 year-old had ten stitches removed by Doctor Giuseppe Porcellini, one of the specialists who operated on him just over a fortnight ago.

Seventeen days after his operation in Cattolica and with his recovery going according to plan Rossi has been able to start the first phase of his rehabilitation. Rossi’s physiotherapist explained that the first stage placed only a passive emphasis on the shoulder, to avoid any complications around the joint.

Doctor Porcellini, satisfied with the progress of Rossi’s physical condition in the weeks following the operation, said that if the course of recovery continues to follow its recent path then Rossi could expect to start making active movements and exercises with the shoulder within 15 days.

Rossi said on his official website: “I’ve started the rehabilitation on the shoulder and the situation is improving. It’s two weeks since the operation and I’ve now had the stitches removed by Doctor Porcellini. From today I’ll be back in the gym, at least working on the rest of my body, and to work on the shoulder even if it is passive so as not to lose any mobility.”

“In about two weeks I will begin active work in the pool and gym to be ready for the three days of Testing in February (1st-3rd at Sepang). We must make progress, and we hope to be fit in time for the first Test of 2011 with Ducati.”

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider explained to motogp.com that just over a week after shoulder surgery he is happy with how he is progressing, that he expects to be fully fit for the Sepang Test at the start of February, and also discussed the forthcoming season.

Cal Crutchlow is confident he will be at full fitness to take the most out of the Official MotoGP Test at Sepang on February 1st, despite recently undergoing shoulder surgery. The 25 year-old British rider, who will negotiate his rookie season with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team, underwent an operation last week in Manchester and explained to motogp.com that Professor Len Funk who performed the procedure expects him to be ready in time for Malaysia.

“I crashed at the end of 2009 and ripped the reverse bankart at the back of the shoulder – it was very similar to what Valentino (Rossi) had,” Crutchlow said. “Because I rode on it all year it really wore the shoulder joint so when they opened it, it was worse than expected. They did the best job possible and have said I should make a full recovery. I should make it by February for the Sepang Test. Everyone was pleased with the outcome of the operation.”

He continued: “I have three weeks in a sling but I'm having regular physiotherapy every day, and it’s coming along very well. I’m using the hyperbaric chamber which is a brilliant facility. I use that for an hour and a half every day, then go for physio for an hour then do a bit of training on the static bike at home. The arm is good when I take the sling off, and I can do almost everything. The range of movement already is nearly full, it’s just that the muscle is still a little bit sore as you would expect.”

Crutchlow will make a trip Stateside in the New Year, after which he will test his shoulder by climbing back on board a motorbike. “I’m going to America to do two weeks of cycling in California at the start of January, and I’ll continue my physio work over there. Once I get back in mid-January I’ll hopefully go out on some sort of motorbike and ride, making sure I can brake and withstand the force and things like that. The surgeon, the physiotherapist, everybody says there’s no reason I shouldn’t be riding in Sepang and I should be up to full fitness by then.”

Reviewing his progress so far having seen a private Test in Japan affected by poor weather prior to the official two-day outing at Valencia in November, Crutchlow said: “Valencia is not an easy circuit to go and have your first MotoGP Test on as it’s not very open or fast and flowing, it’s quite a tight circuit, but I’m glad we did it and I got a lot of riding in. Now I’m looking forward to going to Sepang, a circuit I’ve never been to, and getting testing there. I think it’s a bit more like the usual MotoGP tracks on the calendar so it’ll be good to go there and see how things are.”

The former world supersport champion is keeping his expectations for the 2011 MotoGP season closely guarded, and expects his first season to be an educational experience before kicking on in 2012.

“It’s going to be a big learning curve for me this year. I’ve not ridden GP bikes before and have 10 tracks on the calendar to learn. I’ll have to learn fast and get on with it, I’m up against the best guys in the world and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

“At some circuits I’ll go better than others because I’ll know them, but I’m not under any pressure from Hervé (Poncharal, Tech 3 boss) and the team, Yamaha or myself. I’m just going there looking forward to learning how to ride the bike in the first year and then have a strong second year. When it changes to 1000cc (in 2012) I might be that bit closer having the first year of learning on the 800cc.”

Valentino Rossi’s Test results from Valencia on the Ducati are no cause for concern, said the Italian’s chief mechanic Jeremy Burgess as reported by Autosport.

“There's no reason to panic, despite Valentino's unusual test results," Burgess was quoted as saying. “Everything was new for Valentino as it was for myself and my team. The Ducati reacts differently, so this is a time to be handled with calmness by us too, just to understand things. After years of Japanese bikes, and seven seasons at Yamaha, for Valentino to get on the Ducati was a sort of culture shock. Everyone likes to be at the top of the timesheets, after every test session, but I knew Valentino would get on the track to do a different job: he wanted to ride to understand the bike, not to do record laps.”

The MotoGP team’s Technical Director analyses the recently concluded season and also gives a glimpse into how he believes 2011 could shape up in a feature interview.

For Fabiano Sterlacchini, Technical Director of Pramac Racing, the 2010 season was one which did not live up to expectations but the Italian highlighted the efforts of riders Mika Kallio and Aleix Espargaró in working towards improving their respective results throughout the campaign.

“Honestly we expected a little bit better because in 2009 Mika was Rookie of the Year, and we also raised our performance level for 2010,” explained Sterlacchini in the attached video interview. “We have to consider the overall situation as well though. At Jerez (seventh from 17th on the starting grid) we had the best result of the season for the team, and we expected that to be the base for a good season. But then immediately after at Le Mans we had a crash (in FP2) and Mika then had problem with his shoulder. We can say the season was more or less compromised in a way there. From a technical point of view with a different engine it changed the equilibrium of the bike a little bit as well as the balance, and we struggled with Mika to find the right tuning for him.”

Reviewing team-mate Aleix Espargaró’s campaign, Sterlacchini said: “Aleix is a really good talent. Unfortunately for him he fell quite often and this made it quite difficult. When you have this problem you can’t find the limit and manage it. It’s normal in the mind of the rider that when they fall they struggle a bit in the next race. It’s not the best way to develop. We had some really good results, but the one thing missing was a good qualifying because it’s so strong out there and if you start at the back of the grid it’s very difficult to overtake. For that reason we probably could have done better.”

In 2011 Sterlacchini expects the pairing of Randy de Puniet and Loris Capirossi, who both have a wealth of experience in the premier class behind them, as well as the arrival of Valentino Rossi in the factory team to have a marked impact.

“I’m optimistic because next year we will have experienced riders and I think they are quite suitable for this kind of bike,” he said. “They have a lot of experience in MotoGP, which is very important. What we saw with Aleix and Mika is that a rider that comes from 250cc struggles with the completely different riding style. I believe for next season we have the maximum support from Ducati as usual, but also a nine-time World Champion in Valentino Rossi who will develop the bike for us.”

The Italian rider spent the majority of the first day of the Valencia Test riding with a big bang engine on his Ducati debut, and General Director Filippo Preziosi was very pleased with what was accomplished.

The first day of the long awaited post-season MotoGP test at Valencia started with grey skies and light drizzle this morning, which left the track unsuitable for the opening hour of the session between 9am and 10am when, luckily, the sun emerged to gradually dry the track surface.

At 10:55am Valentino Rossi arrived in the garage where Filippo Preziosi, Jeremy Burgess and his crew as well as engineers and technicians from Ducati's Reparto Corse were waiting for him. At precisely 11:46am the official Ducati test rider Franco Battaini took to the track for a first shakedown on the black coloured GP11 and finally, at 12:23pm, the nine-time World Champion rode the Ducati Desmosedici for the first time.

Rossi started out on a Desmosedici GP11 fitted with a 'big bang' version of the engine, which he used for virtually the entire day as he worked on geometry and other settings. As the day drew to a close he made one final run on the 'screamer' version.

“It has been an exciting day for sure. The main thing that hit me today was Vale's positive feedback and his capacity for analysis. Today he tested the GP11 with the 'big bang' engine on a standard setting, which he modified step by step to adapt it to his riding style. His first comment when he lifted his visor up was a positive one about the power delivery and then he gave some impressive technical details. We certainly have a lot to do to adapt the bike to his riding style but it is really nice and very interesting to work on something like that. We worked on the geometry and setting today to see how the bike responded and to get a bit of experience working with both Vale and Jeremy (Burgess). At the end of the session he went out on the screamer version but we will make more of an analysis between the two engines tomorrow because they deliver the power in very different ways - the big bang has a more regular power curve whereas the screamer is more aggressive but also more powerful.”

Valencia - Jorge Lorenzo's perfect record in the series cover the MotoGP in Valencia on Sunday (07/11/2010). Had stumbled early in the race, the world champion finally ensure the podium top spot.

Yes, Lorenzo did not start the race in Valencia with the good. Lorenzo out of the starting line just stuck to the order of five. Unsatisfactory condition is also achieved teammate, Valentino Rossi who slipped to eighth.

Lorenzo almost failed to complete the race when on lap two got off the track after touched by Marco Simoncelli. Luckily, he still can control the YZR-M1 and eventually return to the track.

While Lorenzo is still hobbled, Casey Stoner rode without much resistance. There is only Dani Pedrosa who tried to suppress Stoner. Australian rider calm even in the leading position to two-thirds of the race.

However, Rossi kept going and membuntutui Pedrosa at number three. The Doctor even improve record time, cut the distance with Pedrosa.

Lorenzo did not stand aside when seizing the podium did not include him. Yes, on lap 12 men from Spain thrust to the order of two, passed Rossi who remained in third place. While Pedrosa increasingly scattered.

Lorenzo continues to terrorize Stoner, who was still in the order front. The fight was also shown interesting Pedrosa Andrea Dovizioso with a fighting fourth place. Pedrosa, who had recovered from the injury must be willing to recognize the benefits of proper Dovizioso on lap 20.

Casey Stoner show off in his cage at the Phillip Island circuit. He dominated the Australian MotoGP race and his victory made him grab the top three championship from Valentino Rossi.

In the race on Sunday (17/10/2010) afternoon, Stoner, who holds the pole could be in front throughout the race until the finish. Ducati rider was incised time 41 minutes 9.128 seconds.

Jorge Lorenzo who had become world champion from the previous series in Malaysia, still look good and took the runner-up position. Rossi gets tight resistance from Nicky Hayden, finished in third place.

Stoner's third victory this season was made up one ladder in the standings with 205 points. He overtook Rossi who fell to number four with a value of 197. Dani Pedrosa who has not fit completely absent because of injury, still occupy second place with a value of 228, while the remaining two series races in Portugal danValencia.

Other drivers who fill the top 10 at Phillip Island today in a row is Nicky Hayden, Ben Spies, Marco Simoncelli, Colin Edwards, Marco Melandri, Aleix Espargaro and Randy de Puniet.

Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner are looking forward to this weekend’s eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland at Sachsenring, a track they both enjoy riding on.

Sachsenring’s technical details place plenty of demands on the MotoGP riders and this weekend will be no different as the Ducati Team prepare to tackle the German circuit. It is a track that Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner have achieved notable results at in the past, and the layout is one which both riders enjoy a great deal.

The duo head into the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland in confident moods this weekend, each motivated to continued improving in their respective 2010 campaigns. For Hayden, who was on the podium four times at Sachsenring between 2004 and 2007, there are multiple aspects of the layout he admires.

“It is a very short lap at Sachsenring and the first part of it is very tight and technical, with probably the slowest run of corners on the whole calendar. Turns 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all in first gear – it’s like a car park!” said Hayden. “The back section is really fast though, with one of the coolest corners in MotoGP, which we call the ‘Waterfall’ – you arrive in fifth gear and nosedive into a blind corner. You have to be decisive there or you can easily lose a few tenths.”

“It is a track I like a lot and on paper it is one of the best on the calendar for me. I really like left-hand corners and this track is full of them, so it is also important that we have dual compound tyres here,” he added.

Team-mate Stoner is also an admirer of the venue, at which he took his first World Championship podium in the 125cc class in 2003 and was victorious at in MotoGP in 2008. The 24 year-old is also pleased with how his Desmosedici GP10 is coming along, following back-to-back podiums in the last two rounds.

“We have always had pretty good races at Sachsenring, I got my first-ever podium there and I’m definitely looking forward to it,” he said. “We’re a little more confident with the bike, everything has worked well enough in the last three races and we just need to find a bit more speed – just a few tenths of a second. We have to try a few different things to get some grip without losing the good feeling we have with the bike at the moment.”

Discussing the specific requirements for the German track, Stoner continued: “You definitely need good side grip at Sachsenring because through a lot of those long corners you need to keep the gas open as long as possible. Also when you come over the top at turn 12 the rear gets very light and wants to wriggle around, so you really need some traction over the top there.”

“I’m looking forward to the next race because if we can find a good set-up it can give us the opportunity to do well. I want to put some good results together and both myself and the team will be working hard and giving 100% to get them,” concluded Stoner.

Valentino Rossi is renowned as an Inter Milan fan and the Italian was celebrating last night when his football team won the Champions League final in Madrid, beating German side Bayern Munich to lift the European Cup for the first time in over four decades.
