Brivio on superb experience of working with Rossi

Tuesday, 27 October 2009

Valentino Rossi’s Team Manager at Fiat Yamaha, Davide Brivio, says the World Champion continues to surprise him with his achievements.

The novelty of repeatedly winning world titles does not seem to have faded for Valentino Rossi, and neither has Davide Brivio’s enthusiasm for working with the seven-times premier class World Champion.

Rossi’s fourth MotoGP title with Yamaha was met with high praise from those within the factory set-up, amongst them Brivio, who explained that the presence of team-mate Jorge Lorenzo had helped the Italian to increase his level of performance in 2009.

“Working with Valentino is always something special, and despite it having been six years he is always able to surprise with something new,” said Brivio. “Every year is special, but I think this year is because at the beginning of the season we realised we had big competition internally, and it wasn’t so easy because by the middle of the season the strongest rival was in the same garage. At the end of the day it was very interesting, and I think we managed it very well.”

He continued, “Big congratulations go to Valentino because we saw him working very hard this year, harder than ever I think. When the level goes up, and the competition becomes stronger, he puts in more effort. I think that’s why he’s still here celebrating championships.”

The 30 year-old’s twelfth podium of the season at Sepang on Sunday sealed the 2009 crown after a controlled ride in wet conditions, and it is Rossi’s lack of critical mistakes this year that Brivio believes has been key.

“The group (Rossi’s team) has been together for six years, and is always very careful about details and not making mistakes, because they do happen,” he said. “The target is to make as few mistakes as possible, but we really care about the details. Even the mechanics – who have been working together for 15 years – are always thinking how to make it better, and this is a motivation that comes from Valentino.”

“As he works so hard to beat his rivals, we also have to work harder to not make any mistakes and to give him the right set-up. We found out this year we had the best set-up on the track, we had two good riders, and I think we dominated the season, which is just fantastic.”

Rossi: This is a ‘great achievement’

Sunday, 25 October 2009

Valentino Rossi claimed his seventh premier class world title in Malaysia – the ninth of his career across all categories – on Sunday, and acknowledged the magnitude of his feat.

A twelfth podium of the season for Valentino Rossi – the 163rd of his career across all classes – secured the 2009 MotoGP World Championship for the Italian at Sepang, and he was understandably delighted with the achievement.

In rain-soaked conditions and after falling to tenth place from pole position after a slow start, Rossi climbed the field to secure third behind Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, and explained the problems that faced him before the start of the race.

“Today’s race went a bit like how the season has gone, because we were so fast on the dry tyres, but right before the start of the race it started to rain so we had to go out on the track without any wet setting,” said Rossi.

“It’s a great achievement, and for me it’s the ninth championship, the seventh in MotoGP. I have to thank all the guys from Yamaha, who are great, and all the Fiat Yamaha team, from Jeremy (Burgess, chief mechanic) and all the mechanics to all the guys that work for me, and all my friends. All the people that helped me with this great achievement.”

Having been pushed throughout the season to retain his crown by team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who finished fourth, Rossi paid special tribute to the 22 year-old Spaniard’s efforts.

“Throughout the season I had great rivals, at the end especially Jorge my team-mate, who stayed very close to me, and we had some great fights. He’s a great rival so congratulations to him,” said Rossi.

“But we are on the top and now we’ll relax and try to take in this achievement. The ninth championship is great – I’m so happy.”

Injured Canepa to miss Sepang as Espargaró steps in

Wednesday, 21 October 2009

Aleix Espargaró will ride for Pramac Racing in place of the injured Niccolò Canepa at Sepang this weekend.

After a medical examination at Melbourne hospital on Monday, Niccolò Canepa has been forced to withdraw from this weekend’s Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The Italian rider, who had a skin graft following his crash during Friday’s practice at Phillip Island, is unable to ride in this weekend’s GP while his injured arm heals.

Aleix Espargaró will ride in his place, having already raced twice for Pramac Racing at Indianapolis and Misano this season. Earlier this month the Spaniard signed a contract to ride in the premier class with the team for next season, and he will have the opportunity to further familiarise himself with their set-up at Sepang.

Aleix Espargarò

“I am very surprised and happy to be back in MotoGP so soon, even if I am always sad when a colleague gets hurt. I hope Niccolò gets well as soon as possible and is at his best for the Valencia race. I will use this weekend as a pre-season test. I have a lot to learn and this will be a great chance for me. After my last race in Misano I have trained constantly and I am certain to be in good physical condition, even if in Sepang it is always very hard due to the high temperature and humidity.”

Niccolò Canepa

“I am very sorry I’m unable to ride in Malaysia. The team was working very well together and in the last few races I wanted to secure a good place. The doctors have recommended that I don’t take any risks as the cut isn’t looking too good, and therefore I will be taking a break to ensure I’m at my best in Valencia next month. I still feel a lot of pain but now the worst has passed. I hope that Mika (Kallio) and Aleix will be able to secure good results for the Pramac Racing Team.”

Stoner "Hattrick", Rossi Winner Close to Degree

unday, 18/10/2009 | 12:47 WIB
PHILLIP ISLAND, KOMPAS.com - Casey Stoner won the Australian Grand Prix. In the race at Phillip Island circuit on Sunday (18/10), this Ducati pebalap beat Valentino Rossi to finish at number two. Thus, Hattrick Stoner scored his own in front of the public since before he became king at the last two seasons.

As for Rossi, finishing in the order of two was enough for him to make way into the world champion and defend this most prestigious title. The reason, the nearest rival and teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, fell after the start and failed to continue the race.

Thus, Rossi is now 38 points ahead of Lorenzo. With the remaining two series races and contested maximum points is 50, Rossi need only 12 more points to ensure themselves a championship in 2009.

The road race

Pedrosa started the race with a highly convincing. Start from the top three, Spain was directly pebalap leapt to the forefront.

Meanwhile, in the back row in contact between Lorenzo and Nicky Hayden. When will veer to the right, Lorenzo the start of the sequence of four tries for a bit to the outside. But at the same time, Hayden who broke from the order of the seven had been slightly in front of the motor so that the contact between the two is inevitable pebalap.

Lorenzo is touching the back of the motor Hayden tried to control the bike, but he can not help that eventually collapsed and failed to continue the race-Lorenzo became the only failed pebalap finish in this race. While Hayden, who was forced to leave the track and slid into the gravel, still able to continue racing.

Back to the front row the race, Stoner did not take that long to take over the course of battle. This host Pebalap passed Pedrosa, who was unable to maintain performance, which directly fell to third order.

Thus, there was a tight battle between Stoner and Rossi to fight the number one podium Australian GP. On the 5th lap, "The Doctor" to cut the fastest lap for Ducati distance with the champ, so they are very close distance. Nevertheless, Rossi remains difficult to pass Stoner scored a Hattrick determined with Ducati at Phillip Island.

As the race entered the last lap-lap, Rossi did not seem too eager to catch Stoner. Six times world champion MotoGP is trying to play "safe" because the finish in any order of the two he already was on track given the world champion Lorenzo not get points in this series.

While the top three, Pedrosa seemed "uncomfortable" because of Alex de Angelis who had followed him falling further behind. However, the achieved results are not sufficient to maintain all three positions in the standings because Stoner managed menyalipnya and now six points ahead.

With this result, the Malaysian Grand Prix next week will be the moment of determining who will become world champion. Full been held Rossi because he only needs to have at least 12 points, while Lorenzo needed a miracle to be a world champion.

Rossi starts Phillip Island weekend on front foot

After his disappointment at Estoril two weeks ago Valentino Rossi struck a psychological blow with the best time in first free practice at the Iveco Australian Grand Prix.

Phillip Island 2009 - MotoGP FP1 Highlights

World Champion Valentino Rossi got straight on the pace on Friday in Australia, setting the fastest time in FP1 by a 0.135s margin in cool, calm and dry conditions at Phillip Island.

The six-time premier class title winner wants to maintain or increase his 18 point championship lead this weekend at the Iveco Australian Grand Prix ahead of the final two rounds of the season and he started on the front foot on day one.

Rossi looked comfortable throughout the session and completed 31 laps of the island circuit, registering his best effort of 1’31.032 on his tenth turn around the 4.448km track.

Second fastest was Australia’s Casey Stoner – the winner of his home race for the last two years – as he registered his fastest time on the very last of his 22 laps on the Ducati Marlboro Desmosedici GP9.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) is looking to make amends for his crash in last year’s race and will be aiming for the podium this weekend after starting with the third best time of the first session. The Spaniard was half a second down on Rossi’s pace.

Alex de Angelis (San Carlo Honda Gresini) and Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) were fourth and fifth respectively on their satellite 800cc prototypes, both lapping within a second of Rossi.

It was certainly a case of ‘first round’ to Rossi in the psychological battle with his main championship rival and team-mate Jorge Lorenzo as the Majorcan rider lowsided near the end of the session and could only manage the sixth best time of the afternoon – more than a second off the Italian’s hot lap.

The top ten was completed by James Toseland (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda), Mika Kallio (Pramac Racing) and Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki).

Toseland and Kallio both had low speed crashes, whilst Kallio’s colleague Niccolò Canepa also hit the deck and was taken to the medical centre for a check-up on his right elbow - and has since been ruled out for the rest of the Grand Prix.
